Traditional load-bearing brickwork to form housing

"This is high-density housing at its very best, demonstrating that volume house-builders can deliver high-quality architecture – and that as a result, they can improve their own bottom line.  The whole scheme is about relationships: between architect and developer/contractor/client"

Sir Robert McAlpine Buildings 4 & 5 Paternoster Square 2002 -2003

Building 4 – 40mm high brickwork laid as 1B thick wall with brick on precast lintels.

Building 5 – Portland Stone to ground floor, vestibule and fourth floor. Brickwork from first to third floor laid as Building 4.

"The judges thought this was a splendid approach to a difficult brief and the result is a stunning building. The use of structural brickwork to great effect was also noted. Slim proportioned Ibstock Swanage purpose-made bricks are laid with a flush mortar joint that is characterised by a remarkable consistency of colour throughout. The whole effect of bond patterns and recessed and projecting string courses enhance the building’s overall appeal".

Skanska 20 - 32 Baker Street 2001 -2002

Traditional load bearing brickwork to form offices for Loftus Family Trust

"The judges thought this was a restrained and very accurate regeneration of a Georgian elevation, displaying excellent workmanship in all respects. As well as the precise penny joint finish and the camber and semi-circular arches over four storeys, the excellent tuck-pointing is some of the best new work that one could wish to see. Overall, the project is characterised throughout by a high level of quality, consistency and skill".
